OLATHE —
Two Johnson County men face a total of 345 charges for an alleged cockfighting ring.
Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline on Friday filed 172 counts of unlawful conduct of cockfighting each against 37-year-old Fernando Tapia and 50-year-old Juan Carlos Rodriguez-Machain. Rodriguez-Machain also faces one count of obstruction of official duty, bringing the total charges between the two to 345.
Each man’s bond is set at $500,000.
The men were arrested Wednesday at a farm about eight miles west of Olathe. Authorities say they found more than 170 fighting roosters and a large sum of cash while executing a search warrant.
