The Dodge City Daily Globe won six awards — including four for former reporter Claire O'Brien — in the Kansas Press Association's annual newspaper contest.
O'Brien took first place in the news story category for her story "Arkansas Riverbed shooter claims self-defense." The story was based largely on a jailhouse interview with Sam Bonilla, who shot two men in the Arkansas Riverbed on Labor Day 2009.
O'Brien also took third-place honors in the feature, investigative and local business story categories.
Reporter Eric Swanson won second place in the government/political category for his story "Area court workers hit by cost cuts."
The Globe's 2009 edition of Progress took top honors in the special sections category.
Awards will be presented during the KPA's annual convention, set for April 23-24 in Topeka.
