Local students awarded Kansas VFW scholarships

The Department of Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars Endowment Association has announced the names of the winners of their 2008 college scholarship awards.
    These scholarships are awarded to selected children and grandchildren of members of the Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary.  The Kansas VFW Endowment Association was created in 1956 and is the only one of its kind in the national VFW organization.  The Kansas VFW Endowment Association currently has over $100,000 committed to active scholarships. This year's awards total $20,000 for 17 scholarships.
    Among the recipients of a $1,500 scholarship and their sponsoring VFW posts and auxiliaries is LeAnn Brown of Cimarron, VFW Post 1714, Dodge City.
    Recipient of a $1,000 scholarship and their sponsoring VFW Posts and Auxiliaries is Danielle Stroud of Jetmore, VFW Post 1714, Dodge City.
