A 59-year-old Dodge City man was injured Thursday after strong winds blew his truck off the highway near Hill City.
Ronald D. Bell was southbound on U.S. Highway 283 around 7:40 p.m. Thursday when he began to pull his 2005 truck to the side of the road.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Bell had slowed down due to heavy rain. Wind gusts then rolled his vehicle three times across the highway into the east ditch and into a field.
Bell was transported to the Graham County Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was wearing his seat belt.
The National Weather Service in Goodland said the area saw at least nine tornados that night, although straight-line winds may have led to the roll-over.
