The Kansas City Royals claimed catcher Brayan Pena off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Friday and made room on their 40-man roster by transferring right-hander Luke Hudson to the 60-day disabled list.
The Royals said a corresponding move would be made later when he joined the team.
Pena, 26, is a switch-hitting catcher who was hitting .286 with three runs scored and one double this season for the Braves, all as a pinch hitter.
He will become the ninth Cuban-born player to appear for the Royals.
