Mollie Elaine Creech, formerly of Kiowa, was born on January 5, 1920, in Ness County, Kansas, and passed away May 21, 2008, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 16 days. She was the fifth child of Archie Edmund and Bess (Elliott) Gibbens. Elaine attended rural schools in Ness County and Hodgeman County, Kansas. While she attended high school in Spearville, Kansas, she lived with her maternal grandparents, graduating in 1938. Elaine attended and received her associate’s degree from Dodge City Junior College.              Elaine moved to Ada, Oklahoma, to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Walter Brink, and helped care for their two daughters while attending East Central College for one and a half years. After the outbreak of World War II, at the suggestion of her brother, Elliott, Elaine moved to Wichita, where she worked for Beech Aircraft for two and a half years. When her fiancée was furloughed home after three years in the Pacific Theatre, she and Harold LaVern Creech were married in Dodge City on July 23, 1944. They made their first home in Texas for Harold’s final year in the service.
The couple returned to Minneola, Kansas, to the farm where Harold was born. They farmed for the next ten years. In 1957 the family moved to Kiowa, where Elaine excelled as a seamstress and worked out of the home for 37 years.
Her family and friends remember her gentle, loving nature, generous spirit, tremendous baking and sewing skills and general creativity. Elaine could see possibilities enabling her to “make something out of nothing.” She had a special fondness for kittens in particular and puppies in general. Elaine was an active member of the Kiowa United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her years in the Farmerette Club and the monthly luncheon of the I.C.R. (I Can’t Remember) Club.
Preceding Elaine in death were her parents, infant sister and husband; her three brothers, John, Elliott, and Robert; her sister, Muriel; and son-in-law, Ron Bush.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Laverne Elaine Bush of Alva, Oklahoma; and two sons and their wives, Larry and Linda Creech of Adams, Tennessee, and Kevon and Denise Creech of Auburn, Kansas; six grandchildren; Stacey and Jason Potts of Owensboro, Kentucky, Aaron Bush of Honolulu, Hawaii, Casey Creech of Alexandria, Virginia, Christina Creech of Auburn, Alabama, Ryan Creech of Topeka, Kansas, and Tyler Creech of Auburn, Kansas. Her great-granddaughter, Hope Elaine Ramming, added special joy to Elaine’s last four years.              Other survivors include three nieces; one nephew; three sisters-in-law, Lodema Wright, Madeline and George Hilderbrant and Leora Creech.
