Organizers of a benefit raffle for Bucklin resident Toni Day, who is recovering from a massive stroke, will begin selling raffle tickets today.
Tickets are one for $2 or three for $5, and they will be available at FairPoint Communications, 908 W. Frontview, during the week. People may also call 227-4416 for more information.
Tickets will be available until the raffle begins at 7 p.m. July 11 at SpareTyme Bowl, located on East U.S. Highway 50. Prizes will include a Traeger Texas Grill, a Wii gaming station, gift certificates and gift baskets. You do not have to be present to win.
A recovery fund account for Day has been established at the Farmers State Bank, 111 N. Main St. in Bucklin. Please send donations directly to the bank, and make checks payable to the Toni Day Recovery Fund.
On May 5, Day suffered a massive stroke caused by an infected heart valve, which has left her paralyzed on her right side and has affected her speech. She had open heart surgery May 16 to replace her infected valve with a new one.
Day was released May 23 from Via Christi Hospital in Wichita to a stroke rehabilitation facility, where she will remain for about four to six weeks. She is making progress in recovering her speaking ability.
