Russell A. Ardery, 85, died January 22, 2011, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
    He was born on March 13, 1925, at Great Bend, the son of Albert Sign “A.S.” and Edna Jenny (Coffee) Ardery. In 1927, his family moved to Haskell County.
    On April 18, 1948, Russell married Inez “Irene” Hawkins in Garden City. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2004. Russell and Irene were married for 56 years. They were active members of the Church of the Nazarene in Garden City and Dodge City. They lived on the Ardery homestead, where they raised their four children. In 1982, they moved to the Dodge City area on a small horse farm.
     His lifetime occupation was a farmer/stockman. Russell was an excellent judge of both cattle and horses. He was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Thoroughbred Jockey Club. He was a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau, Haskell County Fair Board, Haskell County Extension Council, and was an active Colusa Go-Getters 4-H club horse leader for 26 years.
    Russell’s hobbies were raising Quarter and Thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in all their school activities. Many years of family time were spent watching his horse’s race at the track, horse shows and the Kansas State Fairs.
     Russell is survived by two daughters, Connie and husband, Jim Reinert, of Ensign and Kathy and husband, Gary Tuxhorn, of Dodge City; two sons, Ross and wife, Dottie Ardery, of Copeland and Rick Ardery of Copeland; nine grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Andrea Ardery, of Satanta, Jessica and husband, Randy Neckien, of Westlake Village, California, Rustin and wife, Jessica Ardery, of Broomfield, Colorado, Jeffery and wife, Morgan Reinert, of Dodge City, Justin Tuxhorn of Dodge City, Tina Ardery of Lawrence, Jeremy Tuxhorn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Aja Ardery of Manhattan, and Savannah Ardery of Copeland; four great-grandchildren, Race, Jenera and Jade Ardery of Satanta and Jaxson Neckien of Westlake Village, California; three sisters, Sadie Kleysteuber of Garden City, Alberta Dover of Manhattan, and Eldora and husband, Leo Kleysteuber, of Garden City.
    In addition to his wife, Russell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Paul Ardery; and one brother-in-law, Harold Kleysteuber.
     Funeral service will be held at the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Michael Burns and Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.
    Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, January 24, 2011 from noon to 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
