Duane Trauer, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at his home in Hays.

    He was born April 16, 1929, in Hanston to Laurence and Opal (Bonburant) Trauer. He married Crystal Ann “Chris” Scott on March 26, 1977, at Palco.

    He was born April 16, 1929, in Hanston to Laurence and Opal (Bonburant) Trauer. He married Crystal Ann “Chris” Scott on March 26, 1977, at Palco.
    He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952. He owned Trauer Insurance Agency in Hays for 25 years and was a crop adjuster for 33 years. He was a school teacher for 25 years, taught at Palco High School for 18 years and coached football, track, and refereed basketball.
    Survivors include his wife, Chris Trauer, of the home; one son, Greg Trauer and his companion, Brenda Powell, Hill City; two daughters, Teri Cox and Tammi Strutt and husband, Darvin, all of Colby; two stepsons, Steve Dennis and wife, Audra, and Mike Dennis and wife, Jane, all of Anchorage, Alaska; one stepdaughter, Lauree Honas and husband, Jim, Ellis; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Trauer and companion, Lynne Flanders, Kansas City, Kan., and Rex Trauer and wife, Nancy, Dodge City; three sisters, Melba Worford and husband, Wayne, Denver, Joyce Moten and husband, John, Norman, Okla., and Carol Trauer, Topeka.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Mark A. Trauer.
    The funeral service will be at noon, Tuesday, at the First United Methodist Church, Hays. Burial will be at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion.
     Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Friends may also call from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Hays.
