Dodge City Police Officers responded to an alarm at Rent-A-Center store inside Comanche Plaza, Sunday, March 2 at approximately 3:28 a.m.. Upon arrival, Officers discovered three stores, including, Orscheln, Rent-A-Center and Dodge City Antique were struck by a burglary attempt.

Dodge City Police Officers responded to an alarm at Rent-A-Center store inside Comanche Plaza, Sunday, March 2 at approximately 3:28 a.m.. Upon arrival, Officers discovered three stores, including, Orscheln, Rent-A-Center and Dodge City Antique were struck by a burglary attempt.

According to Deputy Chief Drew Francis items displayed outside of Orscheln's were damaged, there was an attempted window break on the front doors to Rent-A-Center and a broken window on a front door to DC Antique store as well as damage to multiple items inside the antique store.

A vehicle belonging to Rent-A-Center was also found with doors open and items scattered with no damage. Items stolen from inside the vehicle were recovered outside where they were scattered. The damage was estimated at $1,090.

An employee at DC Antique store said she believes the suspect broke the window not to steal anything but to try and run through the store in order to access the back door in attempt to flee the scene.

Evidence led to the arrest of a 22 year-old Dodge City man whose name has not been released. He was detained at the scene and booked into Ford County Detention on charges of burglary, criminal damage and theft. Information released by the police department did not match a list of recently booked individuals, and the police department was not releasing the name of the suspect.
