The Dodge City men's basketball team was unable to make a run late, as they fell to Colby Community College on Saturday night by a score of 81-65.
Dodge City came out and knocked down a three to start the game and Colby came right back down to tie the game at three. That was the story for the first ten minutes of the first half, as Dodge City headed into the media timeout leading, 15-14.
In a rest of the first half, the Trojans were able to begin to pull away, but before the end of the half, Dodge City cut the lead back to three, 32-29.
Colby came out strong again in the second half, pushing their lead to 46-37 with 15:54 to play in the game. Hunter Davis then grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in the basket, to cut the lead to 60-54 at the media timeout.
With 6:07 left in the game, Colby extended their lead to 11, forcing Dodge City to call a timeout, looking for another late push. Late in the game, Colby finished a big and-one then on defense held the Conqs with a block at the basket to lead, 75-61 with three minutes left.
Colby Community College would not let the Conquistadors back in the game, extending their lead to 81-65 with a minute to play. Dodge City was unable to get anything to fall in the final minute, losing their second game in conference play, 81-65
Dodge City is now 5-3 overall on the year and 3-2 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Nov. 29, as they host Garden City Community College at 7:30 p.m.
