A pavement rehabilitation project to improve US 56 through the City of Kinsley is scheduled to begin Jan. 2 and end in December 2018.
The $3,495,899 project will start at the west city limits of Kinsley on Winchester Avenue and continue to the east city limits on North First Street for a total of 1.18 miles. The project will replace existing pavement with new concrete pavement. Work will be done in phases.
The first portion of the project will reconstruct US 56 from Eighth Street to Niles Avenue (US 183).
As work continues, portions of US 56 from Winchester Avenue to Eighth Street will be reconstructed.
Traffic will be routed along a signed state route detour. The last phase of the project will focus on US 56 from Niles Avenue to North First Street, and traffic will be carried through the project as lanes are completed.
The project detour for eastbound US 56 traffic will begin at the US 56/US 50 junction.
Traffic will be detoured east on US 50 to the US 50/US 183 junction, then north on US 183 to the US 183/US 56 junction before returning to US 56.
Westbound US 56 traffic at the US 56/US 183 junction will be detoured south on US 183 to the US 50/US 183 junction, then west of US 50 to the US 50/US 56 junction before returning to US 56.
Pavers Inc. of Salina is the primary contractor for the project.
