It has been 8 years since the MINI Takes the States Rally came to Dodge City and this July it will be returning.

The cross-country rally will feature owners of MINI Cooper's heading into town on July 19.

"There are two legs of the rally," Convention and Visitors Bureau tourism coordinator Megan Welsh said. "One in the east, one in the west with the western group coming to us from Orlando.

"They would leave on July 14 and come up through Oklahoma City.

"Once they get to Dodge they will leave at 9 a.m. to head to Keystone, Colorado."

The owners will gather at United Wireless Arena at 7 a.m. on July 20 then leave together to head to Colorado at 9 a.m.

This will mark the 7th MINI rally that takes place every other year and is a way for MINI Cooper owners to get together and see the country which the rally officials call, "a consumer-based loyalty event."

"We are anticipating close to 500 cars to come into town, according to the rally," Welsh said. "Anyone can jump in and take part along the way and they can jump off at any point during the rally."

According to a press release from MINI Takes the States, in 2016, MINI owners rallied with a purpose, making an epic 14-day, 4,397 mile adventure, all in the name of raising money to #DefyHunger with charity partner Feeding America.

By the time the rally reached the Thermal Club in Palm Springs, California, having motored all the way from Atlanta, Georgia, the group had raised enough money to provide more than one million meals to help people facing hunger easily topping the initial goal of 800,000 meals.

The charity partner for MTTS 2018 will also be announced at a later date.

"Owners are given a map on their way to Dodge City while in Oklahoma City where it shows them what they can do and what they can see along their way here," Welsh said. "Some may choose to take the highways in, others may take the alternate routes to see more of the countryside.

"As we get closer to their arrival, they will have options to see all of what Dodge City has to offer with Boot Hill Museum, Long Branch Lagoon, etc.

"We are expecting this to be a huge event and are very excited for them to be returning to Dodge City."

To register to be involved in the MINI Takes the States Rally, registration opens on April 3 and can be found at along with the cost of ticket prices to participate.
