The 2018 Western Heritage Art Competition is now accepting entries for artwork in several categories.

The art competition deadline is July 21 with a $25 entry fee and will be of art of animals and plants.

According to the Carnegie Center for the Arts, the animal artwork must represent animals that are important to southwest Kansas heritage and can be a portrait or landscape while the plants must be those that have influenced or have influenced the growth of southwest Kansas.

Winners of the competition will be revealed during the July edition of Final Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

All artwork will be displayed and be judged on by the Dodge City Area Arts Council board.

This competition is presented by Dr. R.C and Mary Trotter and is open to ages 18 years old and up.

When submitting pieces, the artwork must be able to hang and can be a drawing, painting, mixed media or three-dimensional.

All art must be original work and have a short written explanation of the relationship of the subject to the theme included in the delivery of the art piece.
