The Main Street Dodge City Promotions Committee announced the 8th annual Trick-or-Treat Downtown event, that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 in historic Downtown Dodge City.

All children are invited downtown that morning to trick-or-treat at the 29 participating businesses from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with a $1 hamburger feed for the first 500 people following from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children are encouraged to check-in the morning of the event at The Gathering, 308 Gunsmoke, to pick up their Trick-or-Treat location card and map.

Children who get their card stamped by all participating businesses will be entered into a drawing to win a new bicycle.

The bicycle drawing will take place at 12:30 p.m. that day during the hamburger feed. Children must be present to win.

"We are excited to host this event again as it’s an excellent way to invite the community into our downtown businesses and showcase what our downtown has to offer," said Main Street coordinator, Krissy Lampe. "In addition, it provides a safe, fun activity for all area children to celebrate the fall season."

In addition to the trick-or-treating, the annual Downtown Scarecrow Contest will be held during the event, giving the children a chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow display.

This year’s Scarecrow Competition will consist of over 15 scarecrow displays put together by businesses and organizations from throughout the community.

"This part of the event has really grown over the last couple years and it is exciting to see businesses and organizations all throughout town getting involved and showing their support for the community and the downtown area," said Lampe. "We invite everyone to come down and check out all the creative scarecrows that will be on display that day."

Special thanks also goes out to the following event sponsors: Cargill Meat Solutions, Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau, Dodge City Women’s Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Dodge City, Victory Electric Cooperative, Wendy’s, Western Beverage and Black Hills Energy.
