Update: Monday, March 11 is the last day Payless Shoe Source stores will accept gift cards.

The retailer is in the process of winding down its U.S. operations.

Starting Tuesday, March 12, any cash value remaining on Payless gift cards will be wiped out.

Original post: Yet another retailer is calling it quits.

This time, it's Payless ShoeSource. The Topeka, Kan.-based chain said it plans to file for bankruptcy later this month and will close all 2,300 stores, according to Fox Business.

Attempts to find a buyer for Payless were unsuccessful, the Dayton Daily News reported. A going-out-of-business sale could start as soon as next week.

This will be the second time Payless has filed for bankruptcy. The first filing was in April 2017. The struggling chain has already closed hundreds of stores across the nation in recent years.

Payless will join a number of other retailers who have gone dark in the past few years, including the Bon-Ton family of department stores and toy retailer Toys R Us.
