While many were sharing love and chocolates on Valentine's Day, Casey's General Store in Dodge City opened for business.

Located at 2201 N. 14th Avenue, Casey's General Store was part of the Star Bonds project that will see Sutherland's home and garden store and others implemented along 14th Avenue.

At the time of the retail development, three lots in front of the Sutherland's location went up which Casey's General Store obtained, signing a letter of intent in December 2017.

"I began working with the developer in early 2017," Dodge City/Ford County Economic Development Corporation executive director JoAnn Knight said. "Sutherland’s is planning on opening in late May or early June weather permitting."

Another development that is underway is the United Plaza located at the southeast corner of Soule Street and 14th Avenue.

"Scooters (Coffee) and United Wireless will be the first two tenants," Knight said. "They are looking at filling two additional suites as well.

"The land was put in the Star Bond district when it was created so some of the sales tax from Scooters and any new tenants will go to help pay off the bonds that were issued earlier."

The United Plaza plans to be open in July.
