Diamond Athletics of Dodge City are heading back to Florida.

The Dodge City team will be competing in the all-star cheerleading competition for the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World on May 10-12.

The last time the Diamond Athletics competed in Florida, the team came away with a sixth-place finish.

"This is a great way for southwest Kansas to show how great and talented our kids are," said Diamonds founder Valerie Heston. "It would never be possible for many of these kids without the support of our family friends and community."

For the past 15 years, Diamond Athletics has been a competitive cheerleading team that travels across the state and country for competitions.

In order to compete at Disney World, the best teams in the industry earn a spot to compete and this year two Dodge City teams earned a straight bid to the semifinals.

"I love each one of our students and know how valuable each one is to our Diamond Family," said Diamonds head coach Abel Oliveras. "Last year, we finished sixth in the nation and are known as a ranked team in the industry.

"We hope to keep it going."

Diamond Athletics offer all-star cheer, dance and tumbling classes in Dodge City.
