Four marketing grant recipients were announced by the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau that will be used for projects promoting Dodge City’s attractions and events.

A total of $10,000 was awarded to Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce for Dodge City Days; Rocking M Media; Central Station Bar & Grill; Ford County Fair Association and Dodge City Roundup Inc.

According to the CVB, the grants are intended for marketing purposes and are available to attractions, venues or those who hold events or promote activities in Ford County that will attract overnight guests to the community.

Promotional projects include the internet, radio, television, social media, print media and other marketing efforts to promote these events.

"These marketing projects will aid in reaching communities in Kansas, (as well as surrounding states), informing them of the activities in Dodge City," CVB assistant director Colleen Hastings said in a news release. "The marketing grants will be used to market the events for bringing visitors to town and raising awareness of events, things to do and see, and attractions in the community, with the result of increasing attendance to events and attractions, growing business for local restaurants and retailers and raising the occupancy in local hotels."

In total, the CVB has awarded $94,000 in grants since the marketing grant was formed in February 2014.

The grants work in tandem with Mariah Funds, Why not Dodge? and other festival grants.

"The grant is available for marketing projects for attractions, venues, or those who hold an event, and are looking to complete a marketing project in Ford County that will attract overnight guests to Dodge City," Hastings said. "The grant can cover 80 percent of the marketing costs, up to $2,000 per project.

"The next grant will be available again in the fall this year."

According to the CVB, it has been estimated by those who were aided, that the impact to the community is nearly $57 million.

Grants that have been awarded in the past went to Boot Hill Museum; Ford County Fair; Ford County Historical Society (Mueller-Schmidt House); Winterfest and many other events taking place in Dodge City.

All applicants will be required to use the "Get the Heck into Dodge" logo.

A five-person committee of members in the community determine the selection of the grants.
