Nelson Alvarez-Castillo, 30, and Anthony Yapul, 24, both of Philadelphia, Pa., were arrested on June 25 in Ford County after about 70 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and some marijuana was found in their vehicle.

According to Ford County Sheriff Bill Carr, about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, a K-9 deputy with the Ford County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Highway 54 just east of Bucklin.

"The K-9 deputy smelled the odor of raw marijuana at the vehicle while speaking to the two occupants of the vehicle," Carr said. "The deputy conducted a search of the vehicle and located 80 cellophane wrapped packages hidden strategically throughout the vehicle."

Those packages held what is estimated to be close to 70 pounds of crystal methamphetamine along with an ounce of marijuana.

"The estimated value of the suspected methamphetamine is valued at over a $1.2 million," Carr said. "Both occupants were arrested and lodged at the Ford County Detention Center on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia."

The Ford County Attorney's Office has received the case for further review and official charging.
