During the Fourth of July holiday, Boot Hill Distillery held a Salute to Veterans hot dog feed with proceeds going to the American Legion Post 47 in Dodge City.

"Dodge City’s Unit 47 Auxiliary members will increase the funds we donated," said Lee Griffith, Boot Hill Distillery director of sales. "They will buy supplies and sell meals during American Legion bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays."

According to American Legion Post 47 adjutant Charles Sellens, all funds raised by Unit 47 go to support local veterans.

Sellens is also the American Legion Master at Arms for the state of Kansas and chairman of the Kansas American Legion's public relations committee.

As the feed took place, patrons were able to see the Dodge City fireworks display from the outdoor patio of the distillery.

The idea for the salute came from Boot Hill Distillery owner Hayes Kelman, who wanted do something for veterans.

"I appreciate everything veterans have done," Kelman said. "This is our way of honoring our heroes."

According to Sellens, the feed raised $450.
