A fundraiser volleyball tournament was held recently to raise money for the Carnegie Center for the Arts.

The tournament was hosted by Summer Bates with Snodly Art Designs in Dodge City.

The event was sponsored by Cargill, Black Hills Energy, Dodge City Sports, Tropical Tan and Fitness, M.R. Builder, Snodly Art, The Trophy Shop and Misty Stinemetze.

Winners of the tournament was the team Fiesty Seals, consisting of Cole Brown, Jessica Nestor, Travis Brown and Jyme Cinnamon.

In second place was It's a Set Up, and in third place was The Destroyers.

Other teams involved were Wilson and the Castaways, The Fam, and Dig "tHisHit."

"On behalf of the Carnegie board members, I would like to thank everyone involved in making this fundraising event successful," said Carnegie Center for the Arts director Bobbi Brown. "We appreciate each of you and your contributions.

"It is really wonderful to see so many people support our community in such a fun way."

According to Brown, close to $700 was raised, which would go toward children's activities in an effort to encourage and incorporate the importance of children and their involvement in the community.

"We currently have a student-run painting class every Friday at 6:30 p.m. for children to paint with us which will run through August," Brown said. "Then in September, we hope to start doing a craft project for children to participate in once a month.

"We are still working on the details for that project but the money would be used for art and craft projects for children to participate in."

Summer hours for Carnegie Center for the Arts are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
