Texas native Brock Thewman has been named the new assistant coach for the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team.

According to DCCC sports information director Josh Van Valkenburg-Gernert, Thewman was an assistant coach at Division 3 Sul Ross State University before joining the DCCC staff.

"I am looking forward to working alongside Head Coach Steve Tucker, and the co-workers within our academic and athletic departments,"  Thewman said in a news release. "I grew up watching Coach Tucker coach at the professional level and witnessed him win championships with a plethora of top-tier players.

"I want to be a contributing factor to the success of this program. My top priority is to assist in leading the men’s basketball team while helping each student-athlete reach their maximum potential on and off the court — in the game of basketball, academics, and in life."

According to Van Valkenburg-Gernert, Thewman was one of the better high school basketball players in southwest Texas, scoring over 1,000 points and being featured in Vype magazine.

Thewman joins a DCCC squad that went 7-23 last season in the KJCCC, ending the season on a 13-game losing streak.
