The weekend will have plenty of options as Dodge City Days gets going Thursday night with the kickoff reception at Central Station Bar and Grill.

On Friday, the first of many barbecue contests in Wright Park starts with the Little Smokies Kids-Q Competition at 2 p.m.

According to Dodge City Days staff, the competition will feature the best grillers from ages 6 to 15 with a chance to win cash and prizes.

Quickly following the start of the Kids-Q is the first Dodge City Days Steakoff at 2:30 p.m. in Wright Park.

The steakoff is a sanctioned contest by the Steak Cookoff Association with the chance to win cash for first- through fifth-place winners, sponsored by Village Square Mall.

First place will win $1,000; second place $500; third place $400; fourth place $300; and fifth place $200.

Registered contestants will meet at 2:30 p.m at Wright Park for steak draws.

Steaks will be turned in between 6 and 6:30 p.m. The awards will be announced at 7:30 p.m.

To enter the park, a Dodge City Days lapel pin is required.

On Saturday, July 27, the Smokin' Saddles Official BBQ Contest will take place at 9:30 a.m. in Wright Park.

The 29th annual barbecue contest is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and Oklahoma Barbecue Society.

Chefs will have a chance at winning over $15,000 in cash and prizes.

At 10 a.m. Saturday in Wright Park, the Centera Bank Backyard BBQ Contest will also take place.

According to Dodge City Days staff, this year's contest will feature the BBQ Corporate Cup Challenge, in which Dodge City businesses will compete with each other for yearlong bragging rights.

There will also be live music and food vendors in the park during the competitions.

To enter into the park on Saturday, a Dodge City Days lapel pin is required.
