As National Health Center Week takes place this week, another celebration will be occurring for Genesis Family Health.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, Genesis Family Health, located at 1700 Avenue F in Dodge City, will celebrate the health center’s 45th anniversary.

Dodge City is one of four communities in southwest Kansas that will hold a celebration.

According to Genesis Family Health in Dodge City special projects coordinator Uriel Campos, there will be games, prizes, food, health exams and more on Sunday.

Genesis Family Health has facilities to assist underserved and remote communities where sometimes the nearest doctor or hospital is 50 miles away or more, with nearly half of its health centers located in rural communities.

According to Campos, Genesis also reduces unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary visits to the emergency room; treats patients for a fraction of the average cost of one emergency room visit; serves more than one in six Medicaid beneficiaries for less than 2 percent of the national Medicaid budget; lowers the cost of children’s primary care by about 35 percent; treated 65,000 patients with Medication Assisted Therapy for opioid use disorder in 2017; and has served over 355,000 veterans across the country.

National Health Center Week is held from Aug. 4-11.
