The Wright Park Zoo will have a new logo.

During the Dodge City commissioners meeting on Monday, commissioners approved the new logo as part of the Wright Park Zoo Master Plan project.

"With the Wright Park Zoo Master Plan it was discussed that the zoo needs a way to market itself so we launched a logo contest," said Dodge City public information specialist Abbey Martin. "We received 25 submissions in that contest and a committee that narrowed it down to three."

The selected logo was from Minneola resident Rachel Knowles and is a circular design that incorporates three animals representing the different areas included in the master plan for the Wright Park Zoo.

According to Martin, the selection committee consisted of Dodge City Parks and Facilities director Troy Brown; Wright Park head zookeeper Hannah Schroder; Friends of Wright Park Zoo officers Jill Ewy and Krista Amaro; and Martin.

The top three designs were voted on by the public, with the first-place winning logo being the one suggested for approval by the commission.

"The city will own the rights to the logo design," Martin said. "So we may swap out the colors or different marking materials or fonts."

The city commissioners voted unanimously with a 5-0 vote on the new Wright Park Zoo logo.
