Heading into cross country regionals, Serenity Larson set a new school record for the 5K distance, according to Dodge City High School girls cross country coach Brian Lenz.

Larson ran the 5K race in 19:37, taking second overall Saturday at the Salina Invitational.

"We had a really good meet," Lenz said. "The girls are coming on at the right time of the season.

"We are excited to be heading into WAC and regional."

The DCHS girls won the invitational overall with a 43 team score.

The following Dodge City girls cross country results were:

6 — Norma Rodriguez, 20:33

7 — Daisy Orozco, 20:37

12 — Denise Dominguez, 21:05

16 — Karina Estrada, 21:16

21 — Karina Herrera, 21:45

22 — Anna Ridgway, 21:50

The Dodge City boys cross country team also claimed first overall at the invitational with a team score of 40.
