Anne Jacobs has an ability to connect with students, and her dedication has been noticed.

Recently, Jacobs, the counselor at Dodge City Middle School, was nominated for the 2019-2020 National LifeChanger of the Year award.

According to LifeChanger in a news release, Jacobs was nominated by her assistant principal, Gilbert Still, for "always putting her students’ interests first and acting as a positive influence in their lives."

"I believe Anne is a life changer for many students and adults," Still wrote. "We are so proud and lucky we get to work alongside her at Dodge City Middle School."

Still added that when a student or colleague walks into Jacobs' office, they know they are respected, loved and important to her. When students come to her with concerns or issues, she is patient and kind, and she provides any resources they may need.

Jacobs also provides professional development to teachers to assist students.

“I was very surprised by this nomination but also very honored and thankful,” Jacobs said. “I honestly thought I was being pranked. I have never really seen myself as a difference maker. I just do what I do because it’s what the kids need and I love the kids.”

LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation.

Winners will be announced during surprise award ceremonies held at their schools, with grand prize finalists honored at a national awards ceremony in April 2020 in Florida.

According to LifeChanger, to be considered for an award, nominees must make a positive impact in the lives of students; enhance their school or district’s atmosphere, culture and pride; demonstrate exemplary leadership at the school and/or district level; possess a proven record of professional excellence; show commitment to building a nurturing environment that supports learning; and adhere to the highest moral and ethical standards.
