The sugar plum fairy and nutcracker prince, gingerbread soldiers and swirling snowflakes are poised to take the stage this weekend for the third annual community production of “The Nutcracker.”

The production will take place 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Dodge City Middle School auditorium, 2000 6th Avenue.

Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased from any one of the performers or at the door.

The cast is comprised of dancers from Southwest Elite, Inc., as well as members of the community who tried out for the performance. Performers range in ages from 3 to 18.

Southwest Elite owner Janet Smith is the artistic director.

The studio is located at 705 1/2 2nd Avenue, above the Daily Globe, and offers gymnastics, ballet, competition gymnastics and other dance classes.

Public tryouts for the next showing of “The Nutcracker” will take place Sept. 26, 2020.
