On the second day of 2020, the first baby of the year was born in Dodge City.

Olivia Rankin and Francisco de la Torre introduced their brand-new boy, Andreas, to the doctors and nurses at Western Plains Medical Complex.

As of 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, Andreas weighed six pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 inches long.

“We’re so excited to finally meet our baby boy!” Rankin said. “Everyone at The Family Birth Center helped make this such a special and memorable experience for my family.”

It was an exciting way to ring in the new year, she said.

Dr. James Moffitt delivered Andreas.

“I’m honored that I was able to be a part of this memorable moment for Olivia and Francisco,” he said.

Center director Ranae Riley said the complex is known for providing a “safe, comforting and welcoming environment” for the newest members of the community.

“Our team of expert clinical and support staff are dedicated to ensuring every patient and their family have a positive experience during this special time,” Riley said.

The proud parents were showered with gifts donated by regional businesses including the complex, Longs, Ace Hardware, Village Square Mall, McDonald’s, Shoe Fetish and the radio stations Q97.3 FM, Z98.1 FM and La Ke Buena 105.9 FM.

A bouquet of Humbles Flowers was also presented to Rankin.

The center is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care close to home for new and expecting parents in the region. It offers patients state-of-the-art family rooms in a home atmosphere with brand-new equipment and furniture, as well as two triage areas for emergent care.

The center’s Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has private suites for babies.

The center received the HealthStream Excellence Insight Award for its patient satisfaction and is also a Blue Distinction Center for better overall patient satisfaction. It is also part of the High 5 Program for best practices in mom and baby standards.
