A unique joy ride over the weekend led to the arrest May 2 of a 16-year-old boy in Ford County.

According to Ford County Sheriff Bill Carr, Ford County deputies received information concerning a stolen school bus out of Cheney that was last seen in Bucklin, heading west on US-54.

"Deputies located the bus near Bloom," Carr said. "Deputies attempted to stop the bus but the driver evaded them for several miles, leading them on and off of county roads and Highway 54 before surrendering at the intersection of Highway 54 and Highway 94 near Kingsdown."

The 16-year-old driver was taken into custody without incident and was determined to be a runaway from another county.

According to Carr, the driver was arrested in connection with fleeing and eluding; aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, use of a deadly weapon; criminal damage; no driver’s license; possession of stolen property; and several other traffic violations.

The case has been turned over to the Ford County Attorney’s Office for review and official charges.
