HESSTON — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team closed out play in the Hesston Classic with a 56-20 win Friday night in Hesston.

The Larks led 16-3 after the first quarter and 35-9 at the half.

Kailey Jo Ince led Hesston with 13 points. Elise Kaiser added 12.

Hesston is 3-1 and plays Tuesday at Smoky Valley.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School girls’ basketball team closed out play in the Moundridge Classic with a 42-24 win over Hillsboro.

Moundridge led 21-18 at the half and put things away with a 9-0 third quarter.

Lexi Lorimor led Moundridge with 15 points. Kassidu Kaufman added 10.

Moundridge is 4-0 and plays Conway Springs at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at McPherson College in the HOAL-Central Plains League Challenge.

GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebird girls reached the finals of the Goessel Bluebird Classic with a 55-34 win over rival Canton-Galva Friday in Goessel.

The Bluebirds led 34-15 at the half.

Eden Hiebert led Goessel with 18 points, followed by Brittney Hiebert with 13.

Goessel is 3-0 and faces Little River at 5:30 p.m. today in the finals.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School boys’ basketball team fell to Hillsboro 47-44 Friday in the closing game of the Moundridge Classic.

Moundridge led 30-24 at the half and 40-36 after three quarters, but was outscored 11-4 in the fourth quarter.

“The kids played their tails off tonight against a quality team,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “We competed hard but some untimely turnovers at various times of the game and tough shooting luck late were too much to overcome. I'm not disappointed in the effort, only the outcome. We got better tonight in spite of the loss. We will continue to work hard to improve.”

Braden Vogt scored 14 points for 4-0 Hillsboro. Preston Loewen added 11 points.

Anthony Otte and Noah Eichelberger each scored 15 points for Moundridge, 2-2.

The Wildcats play Conway Springs at 8:15 p.m. Dec. 17 at the HOAL-CPL Challenge at McPherson College.

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team edged rival Canton-Galva 49-41 in the Goessel Bluebird Classic.

Goessel, 1-2, faces Burrton in the third-place game at 7 p.m. in the junior high gym.

Goessel trailed 25-15 at the half, but drew within six after three quarters and made a 22-9 run in the fourth quarter.

Dylan Lindeman scored 14 points for Goessel, followed by Josh Schmidt with 10.

HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School freshman boys’ basketball team claimed a 57-33 win over Campus Friday night in Haysville, the first win for the team this season.

Newton led 34-19 at the half and 57-27 after three quarters, ensuring a running clock in the fourth. Newton didn’t score in the final period.

Newton is 1-2 and hosts Valley Center at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
