Despite take a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, the Conquistadors lost to Lamar Community College on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 4-2 in a single 9-inning game.
The Conquistadors had six different pitchers throw in the game with Bryce Newsom getting the start. After going one inning, Jacob Taylor took over. Taylor then went two innings and allowed just one hit and one run. Aaron Duncan then went to the mound and threw one clean inning before handing it over to Jake English. English then threw one inning and allowed two runs on one hit. Logan Angeron then entered the game and threw on inning and allowed one run. Joe Milano was the final pitcher for the Conquistadors, as he threw a clean eighth inning.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lopes got on the board in the bottom of the second to take an early 1-0 lead.
Ethan Bergkamp then led off the top of the fifth with a double and Britt Logan followed it up with his first home run of the season to give Dodge City their first lead of the game, 2-1.
In the bottom of the 6th inning after a runner reached on an error, the Lopes got their second home run of the day to regain the lead, 3-2, heading into the seventh inning.
With two quick outs to start the bottom of the seventh, an error by the Conqs kept the inning alive and the Lopes took advantage of it, following it up with a double to extend the lead to 4-2.
The Conqs are now 23-16 on the year and will be in action again on Thursday as they travel to Seward County for a doubleheader beginning at 1 and 3 p.m.
