The Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Conquistadors Women’s Golf head coach Keith Thomas Tuesday night.

The Conquistadors finished fourth overall at last season’s National Junior College Athletics Association Women’s Golf Championship, finishing only behind McLennan (TX) which finished third, Seminole State (FL) which finished second, and Dayton State (FL) which finished first.

“Obviously it’s tough to lose a coach that’s done as much as coach Thomas has,” Dodge City Community College Athletics Director Jacob Ripple said.

He said he was able to watch Thomas work this past season when the Conquistadors went to that national tournament, competing against two schools “heads and tails above everybody else in the nation.” It was pretty impressive to see the team compete for that third place, Ripple said, with the team having entered the final day just two shots out of the third spot.

“To finish fourth in the nation is just an amazing accomplishment for our golf team,” Ripple said. “He’ll be missed, obviously. He did a great job of managing those girls and keeping them engaged not only on the course but in the classroom as well.”

No successor was immediately announced Tuesday.
