Dodge City senior Adrian Mendoza had himself a night Tuesday, and the Red Demons boys basketball team made the most of it.

Mendoza had a game-high 31 points, and set a new single-game Dodge City High School record by hitting eight 3-pointers Tuesday night as the Red Demons beat the Ulysses Tigers 86-82.

It was an incredible night for Mendoza, who went a combined 11 of 16 from the field, hitting all three of his shots from inside 3-point territory and hitting 8 of 13 from beyond the arc. He was also a perfect 1 of 1 from the free-throw line.

The Red Demons needed every point they could get from him in what was a back-and-forth game throughout. Dodge City led 19-18 at the end of the first and 44-40 at halftime, but Ulysses outscored the Red Demons 22-17 in the third quarter to take a 62-61 lead into the fourth before Dodge City eventually pulled off the win.

It wasn’t just Mendoza who shot well or played well for the Red Demons Tuesday night. Senior Noah Sowers had 25 points, and Matt Friess had 18 on 6 of 7 shooting from the field while going 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
