After a little under a week off, the Dodge City Red Demons boys basketball team is set to return to action Wednesday night.

The stakes however, are elevated.

The Red Demons take on the Haysville-Campus Colts in the first round of 6A boys sub-state playoffs. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Campus High School in Wichita.

The Red Demons enter 11-9 overall and 5-5 in their last 10 games.

It promises to be a strong test for the Demons. Besides playing a 16-4 Colts team that won its last four games, and six of its last seven, but because of the location.

At home, the Colts are 7-1 this season. Their only loss at home this season was Feb. 8 against Maize, a game in which the Colts lost 46-45.

Maize beat Dodge City by more than 30 back on Dec. 7, 2018.

The Colts’ home-court strength is even more of an issue when looking at the Red Demons’ numbers on the road this season.

According to stats provided by the Dodge City High School Athletics Department, The Red Demons average nearly 6 points per game fewer on the road than they do at home, and they shoot about three percent worse from the field, and two percent worse from behind the 3-point line.

At the free-throw line, it’s even worse for the Red Demons. They average 63.4 percent from the line at home, but shoot 56.2 percent from the line on the road.

It’ll be the first matchup for the two teams since the 2015 sub-state round. The Colts beat the Red Demons then 53-52.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
