Historical society acquires local artifacts

The Ford County Historical Society has some unique items it obtained from the High Plains Journal in Dodge City. According to Ford County Historical Society collections manager Doug Austen, the items obtained were a metal HPJ logo sign, artwork by Ted Carlson and Earl Kuhn, a mounted Marlin that belonged to founder and long-time publisher Joe Berkely, boxes of proof copies and a personalized clock.

Carl Ross Bjork

Carl Ross Bjork, 76, passed away December 20, 2021, at the Robert J Dole VA Medical Center, Wichita. He was born July 30, 1945, in a Lutheran Children’s Home in Richmond, Virginia. That same day his loving adoption parents, Stanley & Donna Bjork, were there to receive him as their own. They immediately applied for a girl, and Linnea Roseann became his sister in 1948. In 1951, the family moved to Colorado and the Bjork legacy continued.

Eileen K. Stegman

Eileen K. Stegman, 87, of Dodge City, Kansas, died December 28, 2021, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born on February 9, 1934, at Brownell, Kansas, the daughter of Emanuel and Marie (Gumescheimer) Heronemus.

John Ford Swayze

BUCKLIN – John Ford Swayze, 85, died Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his home in Bucklin. He was born July 25, 1936 in Dodge City, the son of John Charles and Mildred (Ford) Swayze.
