Hutchinson – The Grand Champion winner of the Kansas State Fair Market Wheat Show, Galen Lowe from Sumner County, got a chance to shake the Governor’s hand and receive a gold watch at the award’s ceremony held on Sept. 14, in the Domestic Arts Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Just over a year ago, I accepted an administrative position with The Salvation Army here in Dodge City. I’d grown up knowing about donating clothes and red kettle donations at Christmas time, but what did I really know about this organization? My husband was quick to mention founder William Booth and Phil Keaggy’s song, “Salvation Army Band” which mentions, “Heart to God and a hand to man,” which I’d never heard before.
