4-H Flea market scheduled for Oct. 29

The Ford County 4-H Exchange Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Ford County Fair Building in Dodge City. Booth spaces are still available by contacting the Ford County Extension Office, 2nd floor, 100 Gunsmoke St. in Dodge City or by emailing Ethel Schneweis at eschnewe@ksu.edu. Spaces are very affordable and help the 4-H Exchange fund raiser for their expenses for out of state 4-H Exchange opportunities.

Pecan Pie Brownies

Brownies 1 1/2 cup flour 1 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup cocoa 1 cup butter 3 cups sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla 4 eggs 1 cup chocolate chips 1 tsp. flour (for tossing with chocolate chips) Topping 1/3 cup corn syrup 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup butter, melted 3 1/2 cups pecans Sift flour, salt, and cocoa and set aside.

K-State infrastructure plan gets $4M boost from Kansas Soybean Commission

Kansas State University’s plan to build and renovate agriculture infrastructure on its Manhattan campus continues to build momentum. University officials have announced that the Kansas Soybean Commission has pledged $4 million to support the K-State College of Agriculture’s Innovation Centers for grain, food, animal and agronomy research.

Camouflage on a shoestring

The first early deer seasons of the year are right around the corner, meaning hunters should be digging out their gear in preparation. A very important tool for early bow-hunters is good camouflage clothing. Webster’s dictionary describes camouflage as “A disguise; a deception; to disguise in order to conceal.” Anyone who has priced camouflage clothing at sporting goods stores or even Wal-Mart knows there’s hardly a limit to the amount of money one can spend on camouflage clothing and gear. My way around that is to buy or otherwise procure military surplus camo. This is hardly a secret and possibly many of you have already gone this route too, but maybe I can pass on to you a few things I’ve learned about military camouflage clothing.

DCCC: Women’s soccer earns first KJCCC win of season beating Neosho County

Dodge City women’s soccer team picked up their first KJCCC win of the season holding off Neosho County for the 2-1 victory at home with a huge penalty kick save late to help preserve the win. The Conquistadors with the win improve to 2-6-1 on the season and 1-4 in KJCCC play while also making it four-straight wins over Neosho County in the series.
