How to make a grieving old geezer go nuclear

As a griever I have noticed if I’m working hard, and things aren’t going right I have a tendency to lose it. One of the places I have tendency to lose it is in the kitchen. I’m not a very good cook. When I was married Beth did all the cooking. She was great and she could fix a meal like you wouldn’t believe. Smothered steak, cherry pork chops, Eggs Beth. These are just a few of the dishes that she excelled in. Now that she’s gone, I have stepped up as the chef. I’m a poor cook but I’m learning how to cook.

DCCC: Men’s basketball drops KJCCC battle on the road at Coffeyville

Dodge City men’s basketball squared off with Coffeyville in a Top 15 KJCCC battle on the road and despite a solid effort the Conquistadors fell 94-78. The loss moves the Conqs to 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in KJCCC marking the third straight loss for the Conqs as they are now a half-game behind Coffeyville for first place in the conference.

Lawrence Edward (Larry) Donahue

PLAINS Lawrence Edward (Larry) Donahue, age 90, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2023, at the Kansas Medical Center, Andover, Kansas. He was born May 3, 1932, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Patrick J. and Lucille M. (Sullivan) Donahue. Vigil services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mortuary in Meade. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.

Byers, Lewis ‘Louie’ Earl

Lewis Earl Byers, 77, of Edmond, OK died January 19th, 2023, of natural causes. Louie was born to Jesse and Tessibel Byers in Dodge City, KS in 1945. He grew up on the family farm In Jetmore, KS learning all about animals, farming, and the dairy business. Louie also attended Dodge City High School until 1963. Louie then married Donna Davidson-Osborn in Dodge City, KS in 1965 and had 3 children together, Tonya, Doug, and Jenny. Later he married Linda “Lindy” McLemore-Gillott in Dodge City, KS in 1989. Louie eventually sold the farm, moved to Dodge City for some time, then inally settled in Edmond OK with Lindy until his death Louie always had a natural knack for conversation. He would talk to anybody and everybody about anything. He also used that natural gift with his grandkids by giving them hugs, showing them who the real cowboys were, or teaching them the ‘bean’ song. Louie was so easy to be fond of. Although he struggled at the end, he never stopped smiling, or thinking of and helping others. Louie is preceded in death by both parents, daughter Jenny Byers, stepson Shawn Barnard, long time best friend Tom Ragsdale, and his fur baby Tigger. Louie is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lindy Byers; sister, Wilma Webb, and her husband Herb; stepbrother, Mark Waugh; daughter Tonya Byers; son, Doug Byers; stepdaughter, Angie Gehrer and hus- band Rob stepson Michael Gillott and iancé Erin y grand children, 15 great-grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
