How beitting to publish this list of artists whose work stands out among their peers near the end of Youth Art Month Ford County and the City of Dodge City are made even more beautiful by the inspiring images and thoughtful representation of so much more than what appears to the eye These youths are willing to share with us how their hearts can feel and shine the brights lights from the great ideas in their minds The most brave and artistic expressions of all are how these young people are in the act of creating themselves and inding their voices beautiful and raw free from selfcensorship

BARBARA L. HILEMAN

Ft. Dodge - Barbara L. Hileman, 76, died March 27, 2023 at Scott County Hospital in Scott City. She was born on March 20, 1947 in Montebello, California the daughter of Robert and Louise (Willis) Ricks. Barbara spent her childhood in the Los Angeles area, graduating from Montebello High School in 1965. On January 28, 1972, she married Wayne Hileman. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. The couple lived in California for a number of years before moving to Dodge City. Barbara worked as an administrative assistant to the director of the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and at the Lamplighter Club. Barbara enjoyed spending time at the beach, sailing, riding Harley motorcycles, and she was an avid reader. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Wayne of Fort Dodge; daughter, Amanda Hestermann and husband Kyle of Scott City; son, Willis Hileman of Dodge City, a brother, Thomas Ricks of Dodge City; and seven grandchildren, Alexis, Angelica, Kaden, Graham, Anthony, Nelli, and Gracie. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 2:00PM with Pastor Kyle Evans presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Ft. Dodge. There is no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Dodge Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
