South of Boot Hill Museum’s parking lot is Santa Fe steam locomotive #1139, “The Boot Hill Special.” Baldwin Locomotive Works, outside of Philadelphia, built it in 1903 at the cost of $19,846.98 ($663,082.54 in 2022). It is one of twenty-four surviving steam locomotives in Kansas with twenty-one on display in parks and museums, two in private hands, and one fully operational.

The Dodge City High School boys golf team finished seventh as they hosted a tournament at Mariah Hills on April 20th. The Red Demons shot a 317, their best round if the year.
A few individual golds were not enough to push the Red Demons track and field team to the top of the standings Friday, April 21 in Buhler. Hutchinson and Buhler dominated the meet with 114 and 107 points, respectively. Dodge City scored 97 points to finish 17 points ahead of Andover Central.
