The outdoor track and field season continued for the Dodge City Conquistadors and it was a national qualifying and school record performance that paced the Conqs at the Thunderbird Classic hosted by Cloud County in Concordia, Kansas.
Dodge City softball played host to #20 Butler on a sophomore day to wrap up the home portion of the season and while hanging tough with the Grizzlies the Conquistadors would ultimately fall 9-1 in six innings and 5-1.
QUINTER - Anna Lou (Heth) Brown, age 99 and four months, left this earth for her Heavenly Home from Gove County Medical Center’s Long Term Care Unit, Quinter, KS on April 20, 2023. She had lived in the Independent Living Facility the past 5 1 ⁄ 2 years in Quinter, moving there from her home in Mullinville, Kansas.
Eunice Amanda Friesen, 96, died April 24, 2023 at Fowler Residential Care (Fowler, Kansas), her home for the past two-and-a-half years. She was born to Cornelius K. and Anna Suderman Brandt on September 14, 1926, in Reedley, California. Memorials may be sent to Fowler Residential Care or Mennonite Central Committee in care of Fidler- Orme-Bachman Mortuary. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Countryside Bible Church, rural Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Kim Stuart Holland, 70, of Dodge City, died April 22, 2023, at Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita surrounded by family. He was born in Dodge City, June 19, 1952, son of Ronald and Patty (Lembright) Holland. Kim graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970, then joined the Kansas Air National Guard. He worked for 50 years as an independent contractor extraordinaire, specializing in siding, windows, and patio covers. Kim married Melanie Miller on April 17, 1971. He later married Rebecca Harper in August 2008. He was an ornery free spirit, with a kind, generous heart, who connected with anyone he met. He loved music, a good time, and pulling pranks. He is survived by his children, son Jason (Annette) Holland of Hutchinson, Valerie (David) Holland- Demoranville of San Diego, CA, daughter Jennifer Holland of San Diego, CA, grandchildren Madelyn and Lauryn Holland, Siblings Mark (Janis) Holland and Jeanette Holland, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Gizmo. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives, and infant son, Jeremy Holland. Graveside service will be 1:30pm, Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson with Pastor John Bassett presiding. To honor Kim, donate to your local animal shelter.
DODGE CITY James “Jim” Collins Weems, died April 22, 2023 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born on February 7, 1951 the son of John Wylie Sr.
