DC3 receives grant for new Lake Charles bridge

Dodge City Community College (DC3) was awarded a $40,000 grant to help replace the aging bridge on Lake Charles this month.The grant, which is with the Community Fisheries Assistance Program, is through the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks (KDWP) and is the largest amount awarded for a single project in the program.Jared Stevens, DC3 Director of Facilities & Operations, said he first thought about replacing the existing bridge last winter when the lake thawed and revealed a massive amount of wood rot.“The existing bridge is made of wood and metal with plastic floats,” he said.

Women’s soccer snaps 12-match losing streak versus Barton with 2-2 to open KJCCC play

Dodge City women’s soccer opened KJCCC play in impressive fashion taking on #17 Barton and the Conquistadors were on the brink of upsetting the Cougars but settled for a 2-2 tie to open KJCCC play.The tie moves the Conqs to 0-1-1 on the season snapping a 12-match losing streak to Barton as the Conqs picked up some points in the KJCCC standings.Despite some early possession garnered by Barton the Conqs would not allow them much of any good looks towards the goal and the matchup remained scoreless until the 38th minute when Martina Bonilla blasted a free kick from 35 yards into the back of the net.
