UPDATED Edward O’Neal obituary

A vigil for Edward O’Neal will be held Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the daily chapel (enter through the east doors.)

Mass will be held Thursday, May 9 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Edward O’Neal, a longtime resident of Dodge City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, in Colorado Springs after bravely battling cancer. Born on September 20, 1951, in Mexico, Missouri. Edward moved to Dodge City with his family in 1952, where he remained until his passing.

He had a deep love for nature and the outdoors, often spending his time hunting and fishing in western Kansas and eastern Colorado. He was a member of the Ford County Sportsman’s Club and Ducks Unlimited for many years. When not immersed in these pursuits, he could be found tracking storm systems, serving as a weather spotter/reporter for KWCH news in Wichita.

Above all, Edward cherished his family dearly, demonstrating unwavering dedication and commitment to their well-being. Over his remarkable 54-year tenure, he held various roles at the Dodge City Daily Globe, including Press Room Assistant, Press Room Manager, and Circulation Manager. He also spent many years as the mastermind behind Dodge City Days Medallion Hunt. Renowned for his sharp wit and jovial personality, Edward became a beloved figure at the Daily Globe, touching the lives of many throughout the years.

He is survived by his devoted wife Patty of 43 years, their sons Christopher and Jarret, both of Dodge City, and their daughter Amber of Haysville. Additionally, Edward is survived by four siblings: Brother Ned Jr. and his wife Terri of Galena, MO., Brother John and his wife Mary of Dodge City, Sister Teresa and her husband Dan Boatright of Dodge City, and brother Ken and his wife Kris of Orting, WA., Brother-in-law Earl Beck of Dodge City, and Sister-in-law Twilla and husband Eddie Phillips of Dodge City. Edward also leaves behind a large extended family, including Uncle Forrest O’Neal of Missouri, Aunt Joan O’Neal Rice of Missouri, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews with whom he shared close bonds.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ned Sr. and Margaret O’Neal, nephews Mark O’Neal and Kyle Boatright, Father-in-law Alfred Beck, and Mother-in-law Anna Beck.
