Alberta M. Keller was born to Anson and Edith Keller on the family farm four miles south of Minneola on Aug. 3, 1917. She died in Yorba Linda, Calif., Sept.1, 2012, at the age of 95 years.
Keller graduated from Minneola High School in l934, McPherson College in l938 and earned a Master's degree from Kansas University in l941. She taught at high schools in Kansas, Alaska and Montana before she moved to California in l954. In that year she began teaching English and journalism at Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, Calif. From 1964 until 1971, Keller was chair of the English department. She retired in 1981.
Keller lived in Modesto for 52 years. She was a member of the Modesto Church of the Brethren and a founding member of Casa de Modesto, a retirement community, serving on its Board of Directors for many years. She was a McHenry Museum docent and a volunteer with the public library home delivery service for the homebound. Keller traveled widely in the U.S., South America, Europe and Asia.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Velma Keller Strickler, and is survived by a nephew and three nieces. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes were dispersed at sea.
