The Ryckman Recap

Feb. 18, 2023 Dear Friends … After all the “fan”fare leading up to and following the amazing Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory, it would be hard to come up with any 2023 Week 6 Legislative highlight to even be part of the discussion with our beloved World Champions. Accordingly, I will simply demur on that and let it be known there is “talk” about getting some of the players here for a congratulatory Floor Tribute in the near future like we did last year for the National Champion KU Jayhawks basketball team. Of course, there is also “talk” of luring the Chiefs over to the Kansas side to a new Arrowhead Stadium, but that might have been just a political inducement to getting a big economic incentive package passed. Let me instead -- as we near the hard-to-believe halfway or “Turnaround” point of the Session -- focus on two prominent committee-level measures from this week that in their own way will have a direct impact on something called “power.”
