The top 25 teams in The Associated Press’ men’s college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, and total points based on 25 points for a firstplace vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and previous ranking.

DCCC eSports Hosts Valentine’s Tournament

The Dodge City Community College (DC3) eSports Club hosted a Valentine’s Smash City Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11. The tournament, which was sponsored by McDonald’s, took place in the DC3 Student Union, where nearly 35 eSports athletes competed for more than $800 in cash prizes. Tournament winners include: Rafa Garcia, first place; Mario Garcia, second place; and Nick Bowman, third place. In addition, DC3 students Moises Agular and D’Arren Vilsaint were awarded $250 scholarships.

DODGE CITY - On Sunday, January 8, 2023, surrounded by family, Sedley Duane Hall, loving husband, and father of five, passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas at age 101. An advocate for education, Sedley earned a doctorate in education and spent the majority of his professional years as a college professor at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. Sedley was born in Stratford, Iowa in 1921, but moved with his family to Long Beach, California during the “Dust Bowl” days. He had a gentle, quick-witted, generous spirit which belied his fierce determination. After graduating from Wilson High School in California, he enlisted in the Navy in 1940. As a SeaBee, he cleared jungles for landing strips in the South Pacific during World War II. He later served as a naval aviator, flying torpedo bombers off aircraft carriers. After the war, he used the GI Bill to go from a high school diploma to a doctorate, while raising five kids with his much-loved wife, Betty Ann. As a new university graduate, he taught at Curtis Agricultural High School in Curtis, NE, and then was an elementary school principal in McCook, NE. After receiving his doctorate in education, Sedley was a member of the faculty at Alma College for 25 years, the latter fifteen as chairman of the Education Department.

Lady Demons claim regional title

The Dodge City girls wrestling team will be sending 10 wrestlers to the state tournament after battling through a deep regional tournament and earning a regional championship this weekend at the Civic Center.

Eagles coordinators’ consolation prize: head coaching jobs

The coordinators for the Super Bowl runner-up Philadelphia Eagles both landed first-time head coaching gigs 48 hours after their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. DC Jonathan Gannon replaced Kliff Kingsbury in Arizona on Tuesday and OC Shane Steichen was hired in Indianapolis, succeeding interim head coach Jeff Saturday.

Mahomes, Chiefs beat Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes was magical when the Kansas City Chiefs desperately needed him to pull off another Super Bowl comeback. Playing on an injured ankle, Mahomes threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and scrambled 26 yards on the go-ahead drive before Harrison Butker kicked a 27-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to give the Chiefs a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

DCCC: Softball opens season at Winter Blast Tournament

Dodge City softball team opened the 2023 season at the Winter Blast Tournament playing some topflight competition and while competing in the contests the Conquistadors would fall in each game. Conqs opened the season with a 10-2 loss to #8 Grayson, while falling 10-1 to Tyler Junior College.
