From the Statehouse to your house

Dear Friends … There is lots to talk about from the past seven days of the 2023 Legislature, but I have to tell you -- as an old train guy -- my most favorite “visual” of Week 4 was the group photo put up on the screen (at our Passenger Rail Caucus) of the new Dodge City station platform dedication. The “old” part was further accentuated when the Amtrak presenter reminded us that 90% of reservations today are made without talking to a human! That was balanced by the “new” announcement that all cars and engines on the Super Chief are being scheduled for replacement soon. Another new language revelation came the following day from the K-State Dean of Agriculture, who referred to “double crops,” “cover crops,” and “regenerative crops” – along with sorghum being “good for water conservation.” Didn’t farming used to be a lot simpler when all we had to think about was “plowing, planting, and precipitation?”
