There were cattle drives before there was a Dodge City, and this man played a big part in getting them started. On December 21, 1837, Joseph Geiting McCoy was born on a farm in Sangamon County, Illinois to David and Mary (Kirkpatrick) McCoy.

Mercer Gallery to host art exhibition from GCCC alum

The Mercer Gallery is pleased to host Garden City Community College class of 2015 alumni Hannah Lindo for the first exhibition of 2023. Her comprehensive show “In My Room” features new work after her graduate school experience. The exhibition will run from Jan. 9 to Feb. 10 inside the Mercer Gallery.

Dodge City Public Library introduces Wonderbooks to its collection

The Dodge City Public Library is helping to create a world of confident book lovers this week as it unveils a brand-new technology called Wonderbooks! DCPL got in on the ground floor of this new technology by the makers of Playaway audio media players (which are the audiobooks in orange cases) that proved so popular among library patrons. Wonderbooks have a “read-along mode” and a “learning mode” audiobook attached to hardcover children’s books that can be used with or without headphones.

Lady Demon’s win 2 in a row

The Lady Demons picked up a 50-23 win against Wichita Trinity on Jan. 7 and the girls picked up another win after beating Guymon High School 49-38 on Jan. 10. On Statuary the Lady Demons faced Wichita Trinity and Becca Unruh put on a show.

Red Demons drop a 39-34 heartbreaker to Guymon

The Red Demons basketball team fell in a close battle to the Guymon Tigers 39-34 on Tuesday night, Jan. 10. The Tigers were hot early, taking a 9-point lead into the second quarter. The Red Demons chipped away at the lead, eventually coming within two points at halftime.

Week 8 NJCAA D1 basketball rankings

The NJCAA has released the NJCAA DI Men’s and Women’s Basketball National Poll for Week 8. The Dodge City Conquistador men are ranked #8 in the country and women are ranked #13.

Week 4 KBCA basketball rankings

The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association released their week-four rankings Jan. 10 for all seven classes of boys and girls basketball across the state of Kansas.
